Custom Desktop Build
« on: November 21, 2012, 10:59:02 AM »
This is area seemed a little dead, by dead I mean no one had ever posted anything. So I decided I would list the specs of my desktop.

CPU - Intel 2600K i7 overclocked at 5GHz
Motherboard - ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe
Memory - 8 GB of Kingston HyperX Memory (2 4GB sticks)
Storage - 120 GB Kingston HyperX SSD at 6Gb/s (I use one for Windows and a separate one for all other OSs'.)
Power Supply - Corsair HX750w
Graphics Card - GTX560Ti (Not compatible with Backtrack.)
Optical Drive - LG Blu-Ray Reader and Writer

My motherboard comes with a dualband network card that is compatible with Backtrack.

I highly recommend all of these parts.

I'll bite.

CPU - i7-960 @ 3.2GHz (stock)
Mobo - ASUS P6X58D-E
RAM - 24GB Mushkin Enhanced
Drives - 2 x SSDs - one for Slackware Linux, other for Windows 7.
PSU - OCZ StealthXtream 620w
Video card - XFX Radeon HD 6870
Wi-fi adapter - TP-Link WN822N (usb)

For any other OS' (ie. BT5R3) I vm them on Slackware using either VMWare Workstation or VirtualBox.
Installed AMD proprietary drivers on Slackware and Win7 but not BT5 (unnecessary).

Bit dated, but I'm not a bleeding edge guy..

AMD Phenom II x4 980 Black Edition @ 3.7GH (Stock)
8GB DDR3
3x250GB 7200RPM SATA 3.0 HDD
1x 1TB 7200 RPM SATA HDD
GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3P AM3 AMD 770 MOBO
Nvidia GTX 260 896MB

Windows 7 Ultimate.  Windows Virtual Machine handles a Backtrack image and a WinXP image.  My serious linux work takes place on my Laptops.

My hacker box has a Linux system.init

Hey xamranshamsi, how come your 560ti doesnt work in Backtrack? I've used my 2 560ti's in backtrack (latest and r1, r2) for a while with Pyrit without any problems! Could be your drivers i guess.

My 2 year old ( :( )gaymen desktop:

i5 2500k with a mugen 2 @ 4.4Ghz
8 gb Mushkin blackline
MSI p67-GD55
2x Nvidia 560ti in SLI
240gb Corsair force GT SSD
1x 1 TB WD caviar Black
1x 2 TB WD caviar Green
Inside a CM 690 II, running 6 Gentle Typhoons. Hopefully have enough cash to get a new case later which will be a raven 2, 3, ft02 if i can find it anywhere, or a Corsair 800d, not sure yet!

Running windows 7

My gorgeous (i can understand why a lot of people would think it's horrible looking though) Thinkpad T520:

i5 2450M @ 2,5 Ghz
4 gb RAM, thinking about upgrading that to 8
My old vertex II 128 gb SSD with windows 7, Xubuntu and Backtrack on it
Getting my caddy in the mail today (hopefully) So i can put in a 500gb HDD for storage/windows 7 on it, and then I'm reinstalling Xubuntu to the SSD, removing Backtrack and gonna finally try out THS-OS  :D

I get some error when I try to install Backtrack. Let me try again and I'll tell you what it is.
