Backbox on HP Dv7 6k series with radeon dual graphics.
« on: January 13, 2013, 11:36:34 AM »
So i finally decided to install backbox on my machine.
No regrets thing runs fast smooth and i have everything i need.

Though i still had a few problems on my way.
When i first loaded the boot menu made it boot for its first time and then its installation.
All went well until i clicked install backbox. It did not notify me i still had a mounted sda. I know i had one though.
But, i clicked install and remove all the other things. When the install loaded a whole bunch of errors pop up.

By then i knew something went wrong. Quited install and looked what could be wrong. Relaunched the install yet the same problem.
When i rebooted and tried to load install again it asks me if i wanted to unmount those partitions of course i then knew that something went wrong in first boot.
Now anything went just fine install was clear.

Next up when it was installed i ren additional drivers. As always my radeon dual graphics card is not supported.
So i clicked activate ati/amd driver in the additional driver program. But got an error.
When i looked at the logs i knew that driver did not support my card either.

After looking up the error logs i found this as an answer:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1870496

Quote
It seems that jockey won't (ever) reconize the driver.

To get the latest driver, install the packages
Code:

aptitude install fglrx-updates fglrx-amdcccle-updates

I can be necessary to configure the driver
Code:

dpkg-reconfigure fglrx-updates

Now anything runs smooth, fast updates done. Backbox is clearly way more stable then backtrack is.
Also a whole bunch faster!

All by all i call it a succes and happy i installed BackBox.
