Im not quite understanding what needs to be updated. Its supposed to work as is.
I would suggest installing Backbox and copy over Solak KD theme files over.

This distro was just an attempt to create a pentest disto that looks and somewhat feels like Windows.

If you have specific suggestions for what needs to be updated and why, I will try to create a tutorial for how you can update it.

Someone with decent linux skills should be able to upgrade this distro without too much issue.

Because this distro is Ubuntu running with a Debian Kali kernel, you will eventually end up with dependency issues.

Yeah i see your trying to run inside a vm. Its not going to work that way. Its meant to be used as a liveusb or installed onto the system. If you want a VM of Solak, try this one:

Please let me know how that works for you. I have been meaning to update Solak, just real life work and my 3 year old take the majority of my time.

be well.

I will load it up and see what can be done. It works on Workstation 10, I am guessing you are working on 11.

I think the issue is that your video card is unable to emulate OpenGL.

Click on the Start Orb
In the search box type: ccsm
Uncheck OPenGL
When prompted, disable plugins that are effected.
Reboot VM.

Let me know if that works out.

I will see what can be done about updating this distro.

I just tested the Solak KD vm using Workstation 10 and Workstation 11. I did not encounter the video issues.

If you are using Workstation 11, I suggest reinstalling vmware-tools as the VM was created using WS 10.

As i stated above, the issue is most likely that your video card does not support opengl, so you should follow those instructions for disabling opengl in compiz config. (ccsm)
