Gnosis - Beta Testers Wanted
« on: May 29, 2015, 04:41:14 PM »
So what do you get when you take Pear OS 8 based on Ubuntu Raring Ringtail and dirty-upgrade it to Saucy, then another dirty upgrade to Trusy Tahr then add Backbox PPA and install all the backbox tools (minus XFCE as Pear OS uses Gnome), then do another dirty upgrade to Vivid and another dirty-upgrade to Wily Werewolf?

You get Gnosis.

Seriously people... I took a distro based on Raring (Ubuntu 13.04) and upgraded it all the way to Wily Werewolf (Ubuntu 15.10) the long and dirty way.

So why give myself headaches like this?
Just wanted to see if it could be done.

I am really trying to get a fully functional touchscreen friendly pentest OS.

Details:

Arch: AMD64
Kernel: 4.0.4
DM/WM: Gnome 3.16.2

Not done yet:
Beta testing!!!
Original plymouth theme
Touchscreen gestures
To be announced...

Nice 0E! We always love to see new Distros created.
I bet you had a heck of a time getting everything upgraded and touchscreen integrated.
I don't have a touch screen, so unfortunately can not be a beta tester for this OS.
But it sounds pretty cool.  8)

Notes:

Ubuntu 15 grub changes alot. If you want to get rid of the pesky:
"Loading Kernel x.x....."
"Loading ramdisk ..."
Before plymouth splash starts

Code: [Select]
sudo gedit /etc/grub.d/proxifiedScripts/linuxCTRL + F to open the search box
Search for 'Loading'

in two places you need to change:

Code: [Select]
echo    '$(echo "message" | grub_quote)'to
Code: [Select]
#echo  '$(echo "message" | grub_quote)'

Save, then run
Code: [Select]
sudo update-grub
Note: If you update grub, its possible you will have to redo this.

I had an ISO up for the weekend. I keep finding new things to tweak or upgrade so am constantly creating new updated versions.

I am in the midst of completing vmware workstation images.

I have workstation 10 and 11, not really sure what version I should upload.

Hopefully I will have an ISO and VMDK uploaded by friday.
