Kali-rolling upgrade
« on: January 21, 2016, 01:56:15 PM »
Hi

Kali Sana life cycle is ending , you need to upgrade Kali-linux totally to the new rolling repository
The entire packages repository will be upgraded , this will take long time , depending on your internet speed.

New sources, list should look like this :

Sorry i had to correct the post, the new repository is one line :

deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali-rolling main contrib non-free

If you sat a monkey down in front of a keyboard, the first thing typed would be
a unix command.

I thought 2.x was supposed to be rolling all along...  Must have mis-read something somewhere.

<insert ArchStrike plug here>
rm -rf /bin/laden

Hi ,

Well, upgrading 2850 packages toke for ever, not much to download as much to upgrade the old Sana .
The result was as i expected , very buggy , extremely unstable and the sound system would not start on both Alsa and Pulse .
I think that many files were deleted during the upgrade since the new rolling release is only 2.6 GB , when the old Sana was 3.3 GB.
So i opted for a new install !! so far so good , Gnome is still unstable and freezes constantly .
I installed Mate DM cause it is lightweight and stable .
I will test the applications now and if i see any issue , i will try to fix it and then i will post the how-to.

D4rk,
Had the same issues.  Took forever, then super unstable.  I was just glad I had a snapshot of my VM!  Will stay tuned to see how it goes from here.  For now I'm still on the old way.
