Free Internet service is hard to come by in ZA...
Even the paid stuff is less than desirable. 10USD for a Gig?! Fok that!
KAK!! Daar is meer as een manier om 'n kat boetie vel eh?
Project Isizwe is a good start:http://www.projectisizwe.org/
A long range antenna to connect to a remote *Free* hotspot is something else to look at depending on your location. Anything past about 5K is going to require specialized equipment on BOTH ends of the connection. Just 'listening' really hard will only get you so far.
Now as far as satellite internet goes...easy to get equipment, poor user authentication mechanisms, huge geographical service area...Shame on you...
Other than that, your best bet is going to be finding a provider who "Zero-rates" a significant portion of the services you are most interested in. ZA is known to have some decent mobile plans out there that give you all the Wiki and Twitter you can handle.
