Tired of the operating systems
« on: October 14, 2016, 12:19:02 PM »
Hello.
First of all I am not promoting myself and anything similar, but I am just sharing my opinion.

I made some custom distros from scratch (some of those was not even released to public) and fixed many bugs. Always tried to customize the distro as I wanted and make it really smooth as much lightweight as possible.

After some years of using linux and windows (I grew up on it) I realized (not counting the mac os) , that there is no OS which I find more usable than for a few months. All I want is to have a regularly updated stable distro with minimum bugs.

So if you're one of those who always finds and fights bugs in any *nix distros as me, then you may find this article interesting.

Have a nice reading.

Please express your opinion.
Thank you

Best regards,
Luke

Greetings

Luke , it all comes down to the fact that humans are not perfect , therefore they cant create anything perfect.
going back to distros, there is no bug free OS ! dosnt exist !
We are limited to look for the less buggy distro , there are few around ( forget Windows ).
Mac is just a different " Unix " OS , works well inside it own Hardware , therefore if you install it on any other hardware , it will not work properly.
Same thing with Linux , i found that a large number of Linux distros will work well with old hardware , when i say old i mean 5 to 10y old hardware.
New laptops , tablets ecc... dont play well with linux , compatibility issues are always around the corner.
I have learned that on my own expense .
Guess what , i been banging my head about this very subject , at the end , i am happy with my 43 inch screen and an old Dell Precision M6300 , Nvidia quadro , running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS .
Best Laptop for Linux  .

Hello again ! It's been a while.
Distro I am actually happy with is the latest Linux Mint 18.1. I must say, that I have never had a distro bug-free (there are some, but could get them solved fast) like this before. Guys, I really recommend it.

Unlike the last few previous releases that seemed buggy and slooooowwwww... Fedora 24 and 25 have been pretty solid for me as daily drivers.  I've also had good luck with Arch but it probably doesn't fit the bill as it's pretty user intensive.

it always depends what hardware do you have :) all i need is a distro, which i just start and everything is set up and works ... and mint 18.1 won the battle between all the distros around

yeah I think it was mentioned up above somewhere but the only true way for everything to "just work" for sure is doing what Apple does and having it's own hardware tailored to the software in question.  Of course even then it still doesn't always work perfectly but they come closer than any others to a "working out of the box" experience than any others in my opinion.

Update:

I've switched to windows 10 some months ago and I'm kinda happy with it. No issues, no missing drivers etc, but VMs are always ready! Let's see how long it'll last.

Hah! Till the next update comes and makes your Disk work at 100% usage all the time. Then it will be slower than Win 3.1 (and I should know... I used 3.1) :P
