@N-0n

I was gonna buy Start8, but their methods of purchase just suck, not even paypal possible.

So I uninstalled and am now using Classic Shell '

Works close to the same way as Start8 and is Full Freeware ! Yay !

My mom wanted me to help her out getting a laptop, so I got a laptop for her but it came with win8 preinstalled. Was my first time I saw it in real life, and it was quite a shock!
After removing all the tiles my mom wouldn't be using, and adding the ones she would be, it was actually quite nice, especially for computer-illiterate people.

She came over to my place after I set it up and it only took me an hour to explain everything to her, so i guess it's really, really user friendly.

I doubt ill be installing it any time soon on my own computers though, I don't really see the need to change at the moment.

I installed Windows 8 as a VM on VMWare solely for the purpose of developing applications for my Nokia Lumia 920.  I will say development on Win8 is as painful as any other operation on it...especially running it in a VM.  My suggestion would be to STAY AWAY from it in terms of a desktop or laptop OS.  However, it's not the worst OS for smart-phones...

I'm using a mates laptop with Win 8 on it and I'd honestly rather be set on fire and made to listen Justin Beiber than buy a system with this installed, I have by desktop on Win 7 until they release something sensible.

I made the mistake of buying a laptop with windows 8 on it just because it had a good GPU card. I think it lasted about two weeks before, I finally went with my instincts and installed linux instead. If I ever buy another new laptop it will be a system 76.

Well I've done an update of Win7 on my PC with Win8 since 2 month ago, everything worked perfectly but last week CrashOsoft published an critical update. The update was so critical that my computer crashed and never reboot. Thanks Win8.

I'm actually looking for a good Linux distro with some security tools. It's for one of these reason that I come on this forum ^^

Thanks for the link, there is also Linux Lite, I'd tested it on VM and it seems good. You can see a video test on Youtube :

Im running win8 on a high end laptop i treated myself to a few months back, first thing i did was add start8 (from TPB ;) ), i haven't used the tile/touch interface because i cant think of single reason i would want to, but i haven't found anything else wrong with it to be honest, i think all the new style menus for connecting to wifi etc etc look really good, apart from that there isn't really much difference between it and windows 7.

 Usually I'm like yay shiny!! but I HATE Windows 8!  It's like walking through deep snow trying to figure it out.
I thought it was just me having a hard time.  :(
Whoever thought this would be  good idea deserves a  hearty ringing slap on the head.

ETA: I did add on the old start menu which helped.
