FAILED to set attribute Legacy BIOS Bootable on /dev/sdaX
« on: October 16, 2014, 10:02:41 AM »
Hey Peeps,

This is not Arch specific but should help anyone having this error whilst installing syslinux via the automatic install script into you BIOS/GPT partition scheme, Assuming you have already installed syslinux.

During my interweb trundles i come across this error a lot, Mainly with Archers tho. It will occur upon you attempting to install syslinux without the required (although stated optional) dependency gptfdisk. <Clearly mentioned on the ArchWiki but often skimmed over it seems

Code: [Select]
Syslinux-install_update -i -a -m
gives the following error:

Code: [Select]
Syslinux BIOS install successful.
FAILED to set attribute Legacy BIOS Bootable on /dev/sdaX

This will place you back to shell, Assuming you have root access enter the following:

Code: [Select]
pacman -Su gptfdisk
Now simply repeat

Code: [Select]
syslinux-install_update -i -a -m
This whole operation shall look similar to this and you should successfully installed your syslinux bootloader.
