Windows 10 Updates VS VMware Machine
« on: October 20, 2016, 05:52:22 AM »
Today, for the um, I dunno, 10th time in 2 months, I moved my mouse only to find out my computer had updated itself without asking for a restart time AGAIN. Sometimes I can avoid an update for a while by "X"-ing out the "schedule time for restart" box. Other times, it doesn't even give me the option to schedule the update. When my computer automatically downloads, installs and restarts my computer, it force-closes any virtual machines I have running.
It doesn't save the states, it doesn't turn them off... it does the equivalent of a hard shutdown.
It is very very annoying! Wastes the 30 minutes that I actually have on my computer having to restart the VM and verify everything is still good.
It also got me to start wondering... how many of these hard shutdowns is it going to take to break my VM?
Technically, it doesn't get written to disk in the standard sense of the word, but I understand that the files can still get corrupted.

That's all my rant for now!

In my experience, the vm always gets suspended or I have to "take ownership". Also, you know how backups are a must?? Well snapshots are as well ;)
The quieter you become, the more you are unlikely to sound stupid.

Microsoft should add this feature :

If you sat a monkey down in front of a keyboard, the first thing typed would be
a unix command.

Haha, you probably have the more expensive Non-Home edition ;-)
The things we put up with so our computers can play games, right?
And I don't even have time to play lately.  :P

D4rk-50ld13r, I wish!

I'll probably eventually get really fed up and follow the instructions to modify my registry in order to stop the downloads... if they haven't put a stop to that as well!
