Backbox 3.0.1 Repo
« on: January 28, 2013, 12:41:21 AM »
Greetings everyone
The latest update of BBX 3.0.1 has significantly improved the quality of the distro and the tools .
Its repository is fully compatible with Ubuntu 12.04 on both architectures 32 & 64 bit . The only down point is Metasploit !!! " Fixable " !! and  TOR browser !! " out of date !!
i had some time to test it and the results are 85% satisfiable ! I installed the repository and the tools on Ubuntu 12.04 64bit with no errors and everything seem to work fine on root interface.

Here is how i did it :

1) Install BBX repository and the signature key , then apt-get update && apt-get upgrade . " this will install some dependencies .
Then apt- get install gdebi && apt-get install synaptic . Go to Synaptic or software Center and install Backbox tools & utilities .
2) go to /opt/backbox and delete " msf " folder , then download Metasploit 4.5.1 " latest release , install it default in /opt. Sign in and get you activation key to update Metasploit.
3) go to /opt/backbox/set/config/set_config and change the path to Metasploit like this : METASPLOIT_PATH=/opt/metasploit/apps/pro/msf3.
4) Download the latest TOR browser and extract it in /tmp then go to " Main menu " and change the path of Vidalia to Tor/tmp.
5) Download and install BBX gnome Menu from :  http://ppa.launchpad.net/backbox/two/ubuntu/pool/main/b/backbox-menu-gnome/  ( Credits to N1tr0g3n for hosting the link ).
6) After installing the Gnome Menu , you will be left with mostly Bluetooth applications under ( Other ) on your menu , just go to : Main Menu and place them in the righ direction by creating
a new menu called ( Bluetooth ) and place the tools in it.
7) Install " Wine or Play on Linux " i prefer the 2nd one , but its entirely up to you  ;)
8) WIreless drivers , download :  http://www.orbit-lab.org/kernel/compat-wireless-3-stable/v3.2/compat-wireless-3.2.5-1.tar.bz2
Extract it in /Home or /root  then CD to it  and install the patches :
cd compat-wireless-3.2.5-1
wget http://patches.aircrack-ng.org/mac80211.compat08082009.wl_frag+ack_v1.patch
patch -p1 < mac80211.compat08082009.wl_frag+ack_v1.patch
wget http://patches.aircrack-ng.org/channel-negative-one-maxim.patch
patch ./net/wireless/chan.c channel-negative-one-maxim.patch

make
sudo make install
sudo make unload
sudo reboot

Personalization :

Sway Black-Base ORANGE Installation

To install this theme under Ubuntu 12.10/12.04/11.10 or Linux Mint 13 (Maya), open the terminal and issue these commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:upubuntu-com/gtk3
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install sway-black-orange

You can use Gnome Tweak Tool to enable it, or run these two commands:

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface gtk-theme 'Sway Black-Base ORANGE'

gconftool-2 --set --type string /apps/metacity/general/theme 'Sway Black-Base ORANGE'

@@@@@@@@@ Those are the most significant things to do , there is lots more but it depends on your knowledge and taste @@@@@@@@@@

                                                                                                                          Enjoy ;)

Damn nice theme and wallpaper on that one! You've been throwing up some bad ass tutorials D4rk-50ld13r and I think I speak for everyone that we appreciate you putting these up for everyone. Looks like a cool project to try out, if I have time I want to try it out sometime this week. Thanks again!

Thanks D4rk,

One of my personal peves is getting updates easily. Looks like this maybe the way for me to finally be happy.   :D

And for those not sure how to "Install BBX repository and the signature key "? This is from the BackBox website:

Add the lines below to /etc/apt/sources.list  or create a new /etc/apt/sources.list.d/backbox-three-precise.list file

Code: [Select]
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/backbox/three/ubuntu precise main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/backbox/three/ubuntu precise main

Then add the gpg key used to sign the packages by running the following commands at your command prompt:

Code: [Select]
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 78A7ABE1
sudo apt-get update

Hey Man , do you mean d4rkn1t3-OS   or  the Backbox based project here above ???

d4rkn1t3 -OS  stays 32bit cause its easier to run in Vmware & VirtualBox .
2) it has PAE kernel that reads and uses full RAM.

The Backbox3.1 progect was just a proof of concept and a tutorial on how you can build your own distro based on Backbox3.1 repositories ! it can be 32 and 64 bit no problem.

Greetings. ;)

I mean d4rkn1t3 -OS...  ;)
I find that 32-bit version even with PAE is much slower than 64bit on my T500 Lenovo notebook with Core2Duo and 8GB RAM.

In my opinion that's generally  the same to run 64bit and 32bit as virtual machine in Vmware & VirtualBox.
Most of the new processors are 64bit and can run both versions - without differences.

Best regards
