Practical limit to WPA dictionary size in aircrack
« on: April 09, 2013, 04:06:59 PM »
Is there a practical limit to dictionary size in aircrack? When I have tried using a 13 GB dictionary aircrack seems to freeze but smaller dictionaries work fine.

yeah, I'd say like 1 gig....   13 is rediculous unless you are using gpu accelerated cracking. It would take you 15-30 days to make it through it, and thats with a good computer.

Aircrack will not accept any files above 2 GB

Or at least that always used to be the case.

So much easier and faster to take a few seconds creating a hccap file and sling it at Hashcat.

you should try to clean up the file and make sure you don't have duplicate words or anything like that.

i would recommend splitting the wordlist with a tool like text file splitter.

1gb each would give you 13 files.  Thats just my two cents worth.

No need for any special tools, just use the split command in linux ;

Code: [Select]

split -d -C 1024M biglist.txt biglist_split

Will split the file into chunks of 1024MB with output prefixes of "biglist_split" followed by number sequences.

I am sorry, i was on windows while typing that....recommended a win tool. My bad.

As Tape suggested. the simple split command would do.

Sorry again!

No need to apologise for suggesting alternative tools man !  Keep em coming ;)

I personally switch between Windows and Kali all the time as I run VMs only.
So I like having windows tools that do the same :)

I always run oclHashcat and cRARk in windows to take advantage of  GPU support
(VMs still cant do that.. Boo..)

And programs like Steghide / Exiftool work great in Windows too.

Hmm.. will try to not get more off topic than I already am... lol

@Malachai

WLM also has split options in section 8 :D

which is basically accomplished by the aforementioned split command.
