trouble with anaonymous mode in backbox 3.09
« on: October 29, 2013, 05:40:14 AM »
Hi guys, after using backtrack for a long time i switched to backbox, as it is faster than kali linux and it doesn't have
extra crap.

I'm having trouble with "Anonymous mode"

today i booted up my backbox OS 3.09,

"ANONYMOUS MODE" just stopped working,

i didn't change any of the configuration files. ??? ???

when is start anonymous mode none of my connections are establishing through tor.
I checked service tor. It says tor is running..

i restarted anonymous mode and tor many times but no luck.

when i simply use tor with vidalia it works perfect but anonymous mode is unable to apply it system wide

any help appreciated!!!

I know this may be a stupid question, but have you tried stopping tor and restarting it?
I saw that you said that it was running but I know that it was kindof funky the way it was set up or something.

I havent been on3.09 so im not sure, just guessing here.
if the service claims to b running see if you can connect via 127.0.0.1:9050 as this is the default tor service address
Also if 3.09 updates to saucy salamander as in 13.10 i think localhost maps to 127.0.1.1, once again not sure if this is accurate or relevant to 3.09 just throwing ideas around :)

Hello,

I don't know if you have found solution (i saw your forum topic too), but you need to provide us with more information. Like screen of your mozilla proxy settings + run command "cat /etc/hosts and cat /etc/resolv.conf (before and after running anonymous mode) and provide me your output. Maybe i will need more information, but let's see what we can get for now.

V0id,

Thanks for tip, will check about that too, may be source problem.

EDIT: Tested and re-tested. Only issue i have is when i start tor from terminal and after i try to use anonymous mode. You can't run them in same time, daemon is used by tor, and you can't run one more. Or you are going to use anonymous, or you will start tor from terminal (sudo tor).To kill daemon you need to restart you pc (manual will not work, didn't found why for now), and run only anonymous from BBox menu.

Cheers !

I know this isn't helpful specifically to that button... but adding 'torsocks' or 'proxychains' in front of commands is sure-fire...
