Fun is an understatement...

I picked up a SDR in the form of an RTL2832U. Very cheap less than 20USD... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C37AZXK

You pick up ALL SORTS of RF in the oddest of places. Turns out I have a smart meter...Turns out the Traffic lights here exchange 'cues'...(still working on that one)

Best 15 buck you could spend on electronic entertainment...

Being a radio op, I got one of these a while back to play with and try and listen to the amateur bands.  What types of antennas do you guys use?   The last time I played with it I didn't have too much luck grabbing random signals you really kinda had to know where to look to hear anything.  I'm sure my antenna was just crap because I was using the TV band antenna that came with it (tiny mag mount job).

You say smart meter, you mean electric? I'm going to have to dust that thing off and play with it again!
